Bricks... And More Bricks...
JUNE 28, 2007
I can not believe how many times...
I've moved these bricks!!!!!

Now... I'm loading some of them up...

to take around the corner
and score them on the radial arm saw...
yep... that's me...

I'm not so sure about this saw thing...
I take great pride in the fact that I drove tractors in my early adulthood years, big ones like John Deere, Massey Ferguson, and even a Cattapiller (not the bug!!!) or two!

But this saw, has me a bit nervous...
I'm going to have to re-think just how I might get the rest of these bricks cut...
I did get a lot of them scored...
and then began to break them with hammer and cold-chisel...

and then cart them back to the brick area
so David can fit them in where needed...
I am so grateful for David's help!

Thank you David!!!!!!!!
While David is placing the most recent cut bricks
with whole bricks...

I begin to clean the mortar off of the bricks
that once made up the outer edge of our original labyrinth...
I even come up with a means for shade...
Now... If I could just find someone
to bring me an iced-tea... or an iced mocha... or...
anything ice-cold!!!!

and at the end of our work time,
the center is almost complete...
and we are ready to begin the next ring...

Labyrinths provide us with a path to practice change. Some labyrinths have withstood the passage of time for thousands of years. Others are here for just an afternoon, drawn in the sand at the edge of the ocean. Many modern labyrinths were meant to last for years, but because of unforeseen circumstances their time is shorter than intended. And they once again help us to practice letting go and giving thanks for the time they are with us. The Labyrinth of Life at the Sebastopol, California Teen Center reached such place of letting go and is at the end of one chapter and the beginning of another chapter that is yet unknown.

Sometimes... a labyrinth can take years to become a physical reality. In 2018 I met with my friend Deb, to discuss her desire to have a labyrinth on the beautiful land she lives on. Despite our plans and several meetings, listening to the land and finding the right spot, the labyrinth did not come to fruition. Fast-forward five years and in the blink of an eye... it happened!
