Roses, Wine, & Labyrinths
NOVEMBER 10, 2008
This weekend was the tenth anniversary
of the International Labyrinth Society...
It was also my first time of not being there in six years...
So....
I wondered what the Universe had in store for me instead....
What came to pass was...
that the sister (DFS) of my dear friend (DF)
planned a beautiful surprise day for my DF's birth day...

We called it...
"The First Annual Rose, Wine, & Labyrinth Conference"...
Each turn of the day
was foretold by a special card, made by DSF,
that announced the next step...
We started at the steps of our home...
with a ritual to release that which no longer
was necessary to carry into the next new birth year...
by writing what we were releasing...
and then burning the bits of paper...
Then we stepped into the Santa Rosa Labyrinth...
and made our way to the centre...

and when ready...
lit a candle to bring to light what was new...
coming into each of our lives....
We then feasted on good food and friendship...
and piled into a magic carriage that whisked us
off to Forrestville and the Emtu Labyrinth Vineyards...
Where we sipped ambrosia from their organic vineyards...
learning a bit about the amazing work
that Chris and John Mason do
through their Labyrinth Foundation,
and lost ourselves in the vineyard labyrinth
only to find our shadows dancing at the centre....

Through drops of blessing rain...
we wound our way
to the Analy High School Memorial Labyrinth...

and on into the evening for a final feast...

before concluding the very first
Roses, Wine, & Labyrinth Conference...
with a smile and song in our hearts for the year to come...

Happy Birth Day DF!!!!

Labyrinths provide us with a path to practice change. Some labyrinths have withstood the passage of time for thousands of years. Others are here for just an afternoon, drawn in the sand at the edge of the ocean. Many modern labyrinths were meant to last for years, but because of unforeseen circumstances their time is shorter than intended. And they once again help us to practice letting go and giving thanks for the time they are with us. The Labyrinth of Life at the Sebastopol, California Teen Center reached such place of letting go and is at the end of one chapter and the beginning of another chapter that is yet unknown.

Sometimes... a labyrinth can take years to become a physical reality. In 2018 I met with my friend Deb, to discuss her desire to have a labyrinth on the beautiful land she lives on. Despite our plans and several meetings, listening to the land and finding the right spot, the labyrinth did not come to fruition. Fast-forward five years and in the blink of an eye... it happened!
