Tuesday Afternoon...
JANUARY 24, 2007
Almost every Tuesday afternoon, I head north on Hwy 101 towards the Alexander Valley. That is the place where I grew up and lived in my early twenties. I now take a watercolor class there with ladies who have been dear to me for a long, long time. One of those special ladies is my mother, Nydia! The class is taught by Evelyn Scheerer, who was a kindergarten teacher in her former life, which makes her an even better art teacher now!
We meet at the beautiful Alexander Valley Community church, in the annex room.

But first, before class, my mom and I have lunch at the Jimtown Store where we sit and talk and eat homemade soup and sandwiches. It is a special time together. I have lots of old memories of this place. Riding my "pink" stingray bicycle to the store with my little sister to get popsicles in the summer, or buying groceries as a new wife, saying as I left, "just put it on the tab Carolyn!" Imagine paying your grocery bill only once a month!!! So now, in my late forties, I have new memories to add to the old ones...
This weeks watercolor theme was an old barn in the snow. brrrrrr
Imagine ten variations of this picture all in one room and it becomes even colder!!!!

Tuesday afternoon also reminds me of one of my favorite songs from the past... Do you remember the Moody Blues Tuesday Afternoon? I must have worn that record out, playing that song over, and over, and over...

Tuesday afternoon,
I'm just beginning to see, now I'm on my way
It doesn't matter to me, chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why?
Those gentle voices I hear, explain it all with a sigh.

I'm looking at myself reflections of my mind,
It's just the kind of day to leave myself behind.
So gently swaying through the fairyland of love,
If you'll just come with me you'll see the beauty of

Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday, afternoon,
I'm just beginning to see, now I'm on my way.
It doesn't matter to me, chasing the clouds away.
Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why?
Those gentle voices I hear, explain it all with a sigh.

Labyrinths provide us with a path to practice change. Some labyrinths have withstood the passage of time for thousands of years. Others are here for just an afternoon, drawn in the sand at the edge of the ocean. Many modern labyrinths were meant to last for years, but because of unforeseen circumstances their time is shorter than intended. And they once again help us to practice letting go and giving thanks for the time they are with us. The Labyrinth of Life at the Sebastopol, California Teen Center reached such place of letting go and is at the end of one chapter and the beginning of another chapter that is yet unknown.

Sometimes... a labyrinth can take years to become a physical reality. In 2018 I met with my friend Deb, to discuss her desire to have a labyrinth on the beautiful land she lives on. Despite our plans and several meetings, listening to the land and finding the right spot, the labyrinth did not come to fruition. Fast-forward five years and in the blink of an eye... it happened!
