Creative Labyrinths and the New Moon Year of the Pig
Walking a labyrinth can bring us into rhythm with the cycles of the seasons. Watching the moon go through the cycles of light to dark and back to light again matches the pace of walking to the center of the labyrinth and back out again, of sleep and waking, of being inward and being outward in the world.
Yesterday, January 4th, the new moon entered into Aquarius and today marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Pig.
Pigs have long been a symbol of fertility, abundance, and fidelity. Pigs are intelligent, protective and close to the earth. I think of the ones from the ranch of my childhood where they rolled in the mud in pure delight. Or wild in the woods rooting for acorns and grubs. Pigs have long been a source of sustenance that does not go without great gratitude for the gift of its life.
So this new moon beckons us to step with pig into the heart of our own abundance, creativity, and staying true to our path through life.
